This finishes up my week of simple cards. Four letters and one number (not counting reminder text) might be least amount of characters on an instant spell. If you can find an instant with less text, let me know.

Pretty sure this is over powered. Scrying doesn't create card advantage, but it does create card quality for the turns to come, and many a times that can be better than advantage. While I have no realistic math to back it up, my feeling is that 2 scry essentially equals 1 draw, and the larger the scry, the value gained is exponential.
ReplyDeleteI would honestly say this is as good if not better than most draw 4 spells, and those start at five mana sorceries.
I think this is stronger than lim-dul's vault, which was essentially vampiric tutor + index (a card most people seem to under value, mostly for its wall of text), in any format 60 cards or less.
for a 2 mana instant uncommon, I think Scry 4 would be about right for power level (Scry 4 is actually the largest scry ever printed). It lets you dig 4 (5) cards deep to set up your next draw or series of draws, which is deeper than ponder or preordain can currently get you, and while those also draw a card, being able to remove bad draws from your top four, and keep good ones (on average 2 cards will be kept), it's essentially as good as a draw 2 for 2 mana.
You're probably right in the fact that it's too many scry for two mana. I do have to argue that scry 4 by itself should probably cost U. Take Foresee for example. It's scry 4 and draw two. For 3U. Draw two should cost 2U, therefore scry 4 should cost 1. I get that combined they cost a bit less, but U is reasonable for scry 4.
DeleteI think an instant UU could reasonably be scry 6.
Aside from the power level, I do like the card. Wizard's has never done a strictly Scry # card without another effect (their future sight attempts had buyback, bodies, or draw effects attached). I'd actually be happy to see the UU (or 1U sorcery) Scry 4 printed in M13.
