Lately, I've been asking Hollee for a color, mana cost, and rarity, and then I design a card based on those criteria. Today, she chose four red mana, which is a tough cost to work around. With such a restrictive cost, a big spell is bound to happen. I know that generally red doesn't do -1/-1 counters, but the flavor of this card was asking for it.
The use of -1/-1 counters here is totally justified. I like it. The concept made me think covering a battlefield in magma should affect everything in sight, so I thought of this enchantment:
ReplyDeleteWhenever a Mountain enters the battlefield under your control, target opponent puts a lava counter on a nonland permanent he or she controls.
Whenever a nonland permanent has lava counters on it equal to or greater than it’s converted mana cost, its controller sacrifices it.
