Card of the Day - Infernal Spawning/Besman Horde/Spill From the Rift/Tibalt, Patron of Pain

Today's cards are a vertical cycle. A vertical cycle is a subset of cards that do similar things with bigger or more powerful effects at higher rarites. You can see some examples here. The common and uncommon parts of the cycle may seem familiar to you, as they are similar to Dragon Fodder and Hordeling Outburst. The second set in the Frostmere block is called Hellfire, and devils play a large part in the set, mainly using 1/1 Devil tokens.

The rare part of the cycle gives tokens, but also damages you each turn.  This may seem like a drawback, but trust me. In this set, you will wish there were more things that could let you damage yourself.

The Mythic entry to the cycle is a familiar face to some. All of his abilites revolve around Devils. You can pop him right away to get 5 1/1s with no questions asked, or, if you have some other Devils around, wait and see if you can do some other cool things.

I am developing Frostmere and Hellfire together, so they will play nicely with one another while being very separate entities.

Card of the Day - Mechromancer's Training

While it's not really a part of the cycle, this bonus colorless aura can make quite an impression.  I know it seems undercosted, but you do have to spend (at least) three cards to get the grandeur effect.  I think it's a great flavor for a colorless aura.

Card of the Day - Viromancer's Training

The black Training is really powerful.  I originally has it cost 1B, but changed it because it can easily wipe the board.  This is probably the most powerful of the cycle.

Card of the Day - Shieldbearer’s Training

The white entry is a defensive aura.  It's nice to make an opponent's creature unable to attack.  The only problem is he'll probably throw his guy in front of one of your bigger guys to get rid of the enchantment.  You can always enchant your own guy too...

Card of the Day - Electromancer's Training

A card that gives only first strike isn't that impressive, but the grandeur ability is really good.  A free Lightning Bolt is nothing to scoff at.

Card of the Day - Beastmaster's Training

As the most expensive of the cycle, Beastmaster's Training gives a hefty boost right away as well as a backbreaking grandeur ability.

2nd version as suggested by Chimzar.

Card of the Day - Aeromancer's Training

Today's card is the first in a cycle of grandeur auras.  This one gives your creature flying, but if you draw another one you get quite a big advantage.

2nd version as suggested by Chimzar.

Card of the Day - Enduring Expanse

I had a rough time coming up with an alliterative name for the white land.  This is the best I got.  If you have a better one, let me know.

Edit: Changed the name.

Card of the Day - Roiling River

Another of the cycle.  Notice the alliteration?

Card of the Day - Malodorous Mire

Malodorous Mire was inspired by Pestilence.  Sadly, that card was deemed NOT BLACK by the color pie gods, so I made it give creatures -1/-1 instead.  -1/-1s are much more black.

Card of the Day - Serene Spring

The second in the cycle of five.  These lands are interesting to me because if you draw them late in the game, they really shine.

Card of the Day - Collapsing Cavern

One of a cycle of uncommon lands that you can pay a bunch of mana into to do something cool and then sacrifice at the end of the turn. The whole cycle was inspired by Rocket Launcher.

Card of the Day - Gilded Chapel

The thing that makes this card work for me is the fact that you can get a mana from it the first turn it's out, or you can save it to cast something a bit bigger the next turn.  A powerful cycle of common lands.
