Card of the Day - Growth Shaman

Just a random elf.  Works well with tomorrow's card.

Just some things.

Just so you know, I'll be moving to a new apartment on the 1st of July, and the internet won't work for a few weeks.  I'm posting this month's cards ahead of time and scheduling them to post at midnight each night, as per usual.  I just won't be able to make many comments until I get internet access again.

Also:  The 3rd of July is my six month anniversary of starting the site.  Thanks to everyone for checking out my designs and commenting.  I hope the next six months will be this awesome.

Card of the Day - Sink into Mud

The art from this is from The Neverending Story.  There was a trivia question from way back when related to the art.

What was the name of Atreyu's horse?

(No Googling!)

Card of the Day - Ahern Tiger

I wanted to make quite a few cards that do different thing to mounts.  I thought that this would be a nice combat trick for green.

Card of the Day - Legless Brute

This week's theme is Mount.  These are all cards from Frostmere.  None of the cards this week have mount, but they're all tied to it in some way.  Enjoy.

If you have no idea what Mount is all about, here's an example of a creature with mount:

There was much discussion about it in early May of this year.

Card of the Day - Unexpected Swoop

I like that you need a flyer to swoop down and eat a non-flyer.  Flavorful, and useful in decks with lots of fliers.

Card of the Day - Defender of Tersh

Here's an example of a non-snow card from Frostmere.  Not everything on the plane has ties to snow.

Card of the Day - Strength of Ice

Here's green's entry into the Snowfall cycle.  This one is unique in that it only triggers from Snow creatures entering the battlefield.

Card of the Day - Justice of Ice

I've decided that I'm generally going to be using the placeholder for all of the new cards of the day.  If you despise this idea, let me know.  It seems that most of the time I spend working on my cards is trying to find a piece of art that "kind of" fits. It takes away from me actually designing, and makes more busy work.  If anyone is an artist, and you have some art for cards I make, let me know!  You can email me at madolaf@hotmail.com!

Anyway, on to today's card.  This week's cycle is a rare enchantment cycle in Frostmere.  Each of them has a Snowfall trigger.  Enjoy!

oops.  I forgot to make it snow! (thanks to two faithful readers pointing it out)

Fleshing out Frostmere

It's been a while since I've done anything with snow, but I wanted to give you all a glimpse of what I've been doing with it lately.

On the relatively peaceful plane of Frostmere, the Gargut glacier is receding, and something is coming out from underneath it. Only the Ahern forest stands between the glacier and the city of Tersh. Will the forest succumb to the fiery invaders from another plane? How will the red and black mana spewing out of the glacier affect the citizens of blue and white aligned Tersh?

I've sorted out the mechanics that will be included in the set. Here they are in all their glory:

  1. Snow, obviously. It's going to be doing a lot of stuff it hasn't before, like having enchantments that tap, as well as colorless snow spells and lots of cool stuff that affects snow cards.

  2. A lot of lands. Since the main focus of snow in the past has been lands, I'm making it a theme of Frostmere. There is a cycle each of common, uncommon and rare lands, as well as a mythic land. And that's just the Snow lands. There will be others as well.

  3. Red and black have cards that can easily get lands into your graveyard as well as cards that count the number of lands in your graveyard. (I apologize ahead of time for the placeholder art.  There's probably going to be a lot more of that in the future.  It's really difficult finding good art for these things.)

  4. Green has a lot of rejuvenating spells to heal the land that is being scorched by the Devils coming forth from the fissure under Gargut.

  5. Blue and white have a lot of ETB triggers on snow permanents, using a new ability word, Snowfall (to be previewed this week!).

  6. Mount! Every color gets at least one Mount creature, with the focus being on green and white.

  7. Mythic Legendary creatures of every color, and two new planeswalkers.

  8. Ice counters. Each color has ways to put ice counters on permanents and ways to use the counters for either good or ill.

  9. Lots and lots of Snow Creatures!

You can check out the history of snow in a blog I wrote a while back, here.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be fleshing out the set.

In the meantime, expect a few surprises on my brand new Facebook page, found here!

Card of the Day - Soul Gem of D'hila

This one has a very good chance of making a lot of mana at once.  I feel that this one could be degenerate in the right hands.

Card of the Day - Emerald Sphere

If you can't tell from the other card so far this week, I'm a big fan of 0 cost mana artifacts.  This is one a cycle of Spheres that you can sacrifice for a single mana of one color.  The Topaz Sphere (from Monday) is a loose translation of this cycle and got to keep the name.

Edit: updated templating so it works like Chromatic Star.  (thanks, @JVWoodward)

Card of the Day - Topaz Sphere

This week's theme is artifact mana.  This guy is a colorless Lotus Petal. It is almost a strictly worse version (doesn't have to tap to sacrifice), but still powerful.

Card of the Day - Nathan Petrelli

This is my answer to Isamaru.  I don't think making a 2/2 Legend with one keyword for one mana is pushing it too far.  Also: obviously a leftover from Heroes Week.

Due to the overwhelming opinion that a 2/2 flyer for U is too good, I've decided to change him to a 2/1.  You're welcome.

Card of the Day - Swallowed by Earth

Red doesn't usually get targeted creature removal, but I feel like this is on target for red.  Side note: The original text on this was "Destroy target nonflying creature,"  but I'm pretty sure that's not a thing.  Let me know if I'm wrong on this one.

Card of the Day - Verdant Revenge

I like how this doesn't get really powerful until there are a few flying creatures on the battlefield.

Card of the Day - Royal Antelope

I'm still trying to make a flavorful white card that forces sacrifice.  This one gets close.
