I had an idea for the cycle you all discussed based on Follow the Creaking. Alexis had mentioned if the "recover" cost was low enough players could build a toolbox out of them, bringing back a few to hand at a time. So I went with 1-colored mana trigger costs to start out.
ReplyDeleteFirst I came up with the names, then looked for suitable Sorcery effects at Common. The Red one makes the cycle an engine, which I imagine would attract players to build decks around the 5 cards.
Follow the Creaking (Uncommon)
1W
Sorcery
Gain 3 life.
Investigate.
When you sacrifice a Clue, you may pay W. If you do, return Follow the Creaking from your graveyard to your hand.
Review the Alibi (UNC)
1U
Sorcery
Tap target creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.
Investigate.
When you sacrifice a Clue, you may pay U. If you do, return Review the Alibi from your graveyard to your hand.
Hearken the Moaning (UNC)
1B
Sorcery
All creatures get -1/-1 until end of turn.
Investigate.
When you sacrifice a Clue, you may pay B. If you do, return Hearken the Moaning from your graveyard to your hand.
Check the Fireplace (UNC)
1R
Sorcery
As an additional cost to cast Check the Fireplace, discard two cards.
Investigate three times.
When you sacrifice a Clue, you may pay R. If you do, return Check the Fireplace from your graveyard to your hand.
Track the Footprints (UNC)
1G
Sorcery
Reveal the top five cards of your library. You may put a creature card from among them into your hand. Put the rest into your graveyard.
Investigate.
When you sacrifice a Clue, you may pay G. If you do, return Track the Footprints from your graveyard to your hand.
I like these! It seems like a very strong mana sink in the late game, though. I wonder if we can stop the loop. Maybe cast it from the graveyard and exile it?
